This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, bargaining unit position reporting to the Dean of Business, Allied Health, and Public Services and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins January 2026.

JOB DESCRIPTION

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our team as a full-time faculty member. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction in both classroom, lab, and clinical settings, ensuring students are well-prepared to become surgical technologists. This role focuses on delivering core concepts, fostering critical thinking, and supporting student success throughout the program.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction in both theoretical and clinical surgical technology courses aligned with the program curriculum.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate surgical technology students in clinical settings, promoting the development of clinical competence and professional behavior.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that align with program objectives and meet accreditation standards.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic support to help students achieve learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, including attendance, grades, and clinical evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects diversity and promotes equity among students.
  • Comply with institutional policies and accreditation requirements for surgical technology education and clinical practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency. Associate degree or greater required.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.

Work Schedule:

  • A typical work schedule for a full-time faculty member at John Wood Community College includes a combination of teaching, office hours, and service to the college. While specific schedules may vary by department and course load.
  • The position may require additional duties outside normal work hours and contracted workdays including travel to and from educational and healthcare facilities.

SALARY:

  • This is an exempt position with an estimated base salary range of $31,921.00 - $99,844.00. Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is commensurate with education and experience.
  • John Wood Community College recognizes the valuable contributions of faculty members who take on additional responsibilities beyond their primary teaching and service obligations. In certain cases, faculty may be eligible for stipends to compensate for extra work that aligns with institutional priorities and needs.
